A Builder’s Christmas Wishlist: What We’d Love to See More of in 2026
As the year draws to a close and the mince pies start making a regular appearance on site, we thought we’d share our very own Builder’s Christmas Wishlist — the projects we’d love to see more of in 2026. We’ve had a fantastic year working on a wide variety of builds across Gloucestershire, but if Father Christmas is taking requests… here’s what we’re hoping gets added to the sleigh this year 👇
1. Basement & Cellar Conversions – Give us more of these, please!
There’s something deeply satisfying about taking a dark, underused space and turning it into a stunning, fully functional part of the home. Whether it’s a snug lounge, a home office, gym, or even a wine cellar (yes, we’ve seen the dreams on Pinterest), we absolutely love working on basement conversions.
Not only do they add value — they’re also a great option when outdoor space is limited. And in areas like Stroud, Cheltenham, or the charming older homes of Painswick, there’s often untapped potential right beneath your feet.
✨ Wishlist Note: A few more quirky cellars or hidden nooks to transform in 2026 would be very welcome. Bonus points if there’s original brickwork we can restore!
2. Beautiful Extensions – The classics never go out of style
We’ll never get tired of a well-planned home extension. From light-filled kitchen diners to practical side returns and multi-room wraparounds, extensions continue to be one of the most popular (and rewarding) types of projects we deliver.
What we’d love to see more of next year are clients who get in early — ideally in winter — so we’ve got time to plan properly and deliver a build that’s not rushed or compromised.
✨ Wishlist Note: A few more extensions in the Cotswolds or countryside villages wouldn’t go amiss — we’re always up for a scenic commute and some classic stonework!
3. Stonework Dreams – Give us limestone over plasterboard any day
Let’s be honest: we love working with traditional materials. There’s something about Cotswold stone, dry stone walls and heritage details that really gets us fired up. Blending old with new is where the magic happens, and it’s the kind of work that lasts for generations.
✨ Wishlist Note: If you’ve got an extension or basement project in a period property — especially around Upton St Leonards, Bisley, Painswick or beyond — we’re all ears.
4. Clients who are ready to plan early
Okay, this one isn’t quite as glamorous, but it might be the most important thing on our wish list. Every year we see homeowners who wait until spring or summer to get started… and by then, calendars are full, suppliers are stretched, and deadlines become stressful.
If you’re thinking about a home extension or cellar conversion for 2026, December is the time to start talking. We can help you with early planning, budgeting, and realistic timelines — so the build itself runs like clockwork.
✨ Wishlist Note: Let’s get the plans in the stocking before Santa arrives, shall we?
Wrapping Up the Year
2025 has been a year full of hard work, rewarding builds, great clients, and plenty of tea. We’re proud of every project we’ve completed and incredibly grateful to everyone who’s chosen Larian to help improve their home.
If you’re dreaming up your next project, whether it’s below ground or building outwards, — we’d love to chat in the new year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at Larian Construction!
